Benefits of Camping with Alpaca Wool (Can You Really Use Alpaca Wool for Camping?)

Campfire in the dark. Alpaca wool is flame retardant and self-extinguishing. It also doesn't melt when it catches fire!

Alpaca wool is often described as a luxury item. It can be quite exclusive, expensive, and delicate. But, given the nature of the alpaca wool fiber and the benefits it brings, alpaca wool is great for less sophisticated activities, too!

So, let’s look at a real-life alpaca experience: can you use alpaca wool for camping?

http://pulsobeat.com/senorita-por-favor-un-te-que-frio-tan-tremendo-en-londres/ Alpaca woolen products are great for camping. You can wear them during different types of weathers, seasons and altitudes. You can wear them on multiple-day trips as they don’t require getting washed often. Alpaca wool is also flame-retardant, which helps with the accompanying bonfire on a camping trip.

Move over merino! Alpaca wool is great for outdoor activities. But not only that, it’s also perfect for snuggling, bonfires, marshmallows and no-washing.

1. You Will Remain Fresh and Clean Wearing Alpaca Wool (on Multi Day Trips!)

One of the benefits of alpaca woolen products is their feature of being stain-resistant, odor-resistant and antibacterial, which means that they remain fresh and clean for a prolonged period of time.

The alpaca fiber has some great features that will make sure that you can survive a camping trip without getting all smelly and covered in stains! Of course, eventually even an alpaca woolen garment will get dirty and smelly, but at least it will take a long time before it becomes truly unwearable!

Montevarchi Alpaca has special scales that protect it from staining, which is a great benefit for those who travel light! (Or when you’re like me and you don’t care about wearing the same clothes for days 🙂 ).

Similarly, alpaca wool does not absorb smells easily thanks to its fiber texture. While it might absorb some smells initially (like those of a campfire or barbecue), it will air them out quickly.

Alpaca wool is also antibacterial, which helps prevent an alpaca woolen garment from smelling like sweat. (YES, even underneath the armpits!)

2. You Can Jampack an Alpaca Woolen Garment in a Bag Without it Getting Wrinkled

Alpaca wool is wrinkle-free and does not show wrinkles!

You don’t need to worry about bringing an iron on a camping trip! Because who would, right? So, when you accidentally leave your alpaca woolen sweater in a corner of your tent where it is forgotten for a few days, you don’t need to worry about not being able to wear it again.

The smooth fiber texture and “bouncy” fiber has the ability to “jump” back into shape after it has been wrinkled or stretched out. An alpaca woolen garment will therefore always look nice on you, no matter where you are.

This is also great when you have all your clothes tugged in a duffel bag or backpack (and anywhere else where you have little opportunity to store your clothing properly!).

3. You Can Comfortably Enjoy Sitting Around a Campfire Wearing Alpaca Woolen Clothes

Alpaca wool is flame-retardant, self-extinguishing and doesn’t melt when it catches fire.

When you’re enjoying a campfire as part of your camping experience, you don’t need to worry about accidentally setting your alpaca woolen garment on fire.

  • ALPACA WOOL IS NOT FLAMEPROOF: Everything will (eventually) burn when it is exposed to fire.

An alpaca woolen garment is surprisingly slow to ignite, which means that when a spark accidentally comes your way, it is unlikely to catch fire. In most cases it will simply extinguish.

Similarly, when an alpaca woolen garment does catch fire the piece will not be eaten by flames instantly, it is more likely to slowly extinguish

Another benefit is that alpaca wool doesn’t melt on your skin. Synthetic fibers are very dangerous when they are exposed to fire because they are basically plastic: they will melt.

Of course, when an alpaca woolen garment catches fire, it will get damaged. It will most certainly leave a hole in your garment. And especially for knitted garments, this is something you need to be careful about (but can fix to a certain degree).

4. You Are Protected From Changes in the Weather Wearing Alpaca Wool

Alpaca wool is wind-resistant, water-repellent, warm, and can be worn when it is hot.

When you are going on a camping trip, all you need is an alpaca woolen garment and you will be protected from most changes in the weather.

Although, not really, because you need to keep in mind that alpaca wool is not waterproof, windproof, ULTRA-warm or UV-proof. However, it’s just great for those changes that would normally require an extra set of clothes.

Alpaca woolen garments are very adaptable, as their main feature is to maintain your body temperature. This means that when it is hot, it will cool you down, and when it is cold, it will warm you up.

Alpaca wool is adaptable!

This is particularly great for camping, as you probably want to travel light and make sure you are prepared for any kind of weather.

5. Don’t Worry About Damp or Humid Clothes When Bringing Alpaca Wool

Alpaca wool can absorb up to 30% of its body weight in moisture without feeling wet or damp.

When you’ve worn a garment on a rainy or moist day, or after a sweaty hike, you need to dry your clothing in order to freshen it up again. However, when you’re temporarily living in a tent, you might have limited opportunities to do so.

Alpaca woolen products can absorb quite a lot of water without feeling wet.

So, even when after a bit of drizzle or some enthusiastic dish-washing, or when you came out of the shower but you’re still wet because the cabins are always too small to properly dry yourself (#tallpeopleproblems) alpaca wool will still feel dry and comfortable.

Alpaca wool also dries quickly, which is great for when it starts to drizzle and your clothes get wet. Normally, on a camping trip, when you’re stuck in a clammy tent, things don’t dry quickly. However, alpaca wool will at least feel dry on your skin.

6. You Can Do A LOT in Your Alpaca Woolen Garments

Thanks to the special alpaca fiber, an alpaca woolen garment is perfect for a great variety of activities.

Alpaca wool is multifunctional:

  • Wear it when you’re traveling: it will feel comfortable when you’re stuck in one position (in the car, on a train, on a boat).
  • Wear it when you’re outside: it will protect you from the wind, rain, cold, and sun.
  • Wear it when you’re active: it will maintain your body temperature constant, so that you don’t get cold when you’re sweaty or hot when the sun shines.
  • Wear it when you’re sitting around the bonfire: it will not make you overheat and it will not melt on your skin if it accidentally catches fire.
  • Wear it when you have to be outside while it’s actually not that warm: alpaca wool is warm and keeps you feeling good!
  • Wear it when you’re sleeping: it will keep you comfortable even when you’re tossing and turning, or stuck in a sleeping bag
  • Wear it when you’re barbecuing: it will not absorb the smell of the barbecue or the food and if it does, airing it for a bit (or simply wearing it), will get rid of the smells quickly.
  • Wear it when you’re roasting marshmallows: it will not absorb the smells of the smoke of the bonfire and it is safer to wear than synthetic garments.
  • Wear it when you’re going on a day trip: it will adapt to the environment and activities you’re doing, whether it is on a sporty hike or a visit to the local museum.
  • Wear it when you need to layer-up: it will become an insulating layer that keeps you extra warm when it is cold outside.
  • Wear it when it is muddy and rainy: you can easily clean off the mud with cold running water (no rubbing)
